The ELC will provide customized educational training programs in a variety of areas. Some of the areas where the ELC has provided training include the
Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the
Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, and conservation easements.
A popular recent training program focussed on equipping community groups to become actively involved in environmental monitoring and enforcement. Using the experience gained from the Community Monitoring Project pilot programs as a base, the ELC developed the
Community Action packages.
In 1998, the ELC developed resource materials for Alberta high school teachers to use in social studies, biology, and environmental law classes. The materials,
Taking Part: Participating in a Pulp Mill Hearing, support a role play exercise where students prepare for and participate in a mock hearing before the Alberta Natural Resources Conservation Board. Students learn about the law applicable to a pulp mill development in Alberta and the environmental, social, and economic issues raised by a pulp mill.
The ELC publishes an on-line newsletter,
News Brief, which provides regular commentary and updates on environmental law.
The ELC is also able to provide environmental and natural resources law education services on a
fee for service basis. Any work that is performed must further the goal of the ELC by contributing to the development of sound laws that will protect the environment.
