Library

Martha Kostuch was a visionary environmental activist who spoke intelligently, forcefully, and ethically for advancements in environmental law and policy in Alberta and Canada. In recognition of her many contributions to Canadian environmental law and policy and her longstanding support of the Environmental Law Centre, the Library of the Environmental Law Centre was renamed the Martha Kostuch Library of Environmental Law in May, 2009.

The Martha Kostuch Library of Environmental Law is a specialized collection of materials relevant to environmental law and policy, primarily in Alberta, but selectively in other jurisdictions as well. It contains materials focusing on the municipal or local level, as well as at the provincial or federal levels, and where appropriate, at the international level. All types and formats of materials are collected: videotapes, CD-Roms, government reports, conference papers, journals of environmental law, newsletters, legal texts, discussion papers and draft documents, cases of environmental law, decisions of administrative bodies, statutes, loose-leaf services, etc.

The Martha Kostuch Library of Environmental Law is a public resource library. Individuals, community groups, lawyers, corporations, small businesses and students are all eligible to use the collection. The Centre Library is open during regular office hours, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (closed 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.). Those wishing to access the library can do so in-person, by mail, by fax (780-424-5133) or by telephone (780-424-5099, 1-800-661-4238).

The Centre gratefully acknowledges the support of Dow Chemical Canada Inc. for its contribution to the Dow Sustainable Development Collection at the Environmental Law Centre for the years 2000, 2001, and 2002.
